I want to cleanse my mind and palate. I have a goal for the future (I want to learn American Sign Language and volunteer with the deaf community like my sis) and need to focus all my energy and mental acuity.

So, I’m taking a break from television. In support of that, I’ve decided to also take a break from tumblr as the wonderful graphics created by you all actually chip away at my resolve and self-control.

For regular postings of beauty and grace created about Once Upon a Time, check out my blog, Fairest Designs. I should have enough queued up to last the whole summer.

3.18 Fractures

Trying to choose just one scene in Farscape as the most heartbreaking of them all is a tough challenge. I was tempted to just GIF the entire second half of Season 3 because, as we all know, those episodes redefined angst on TV. I have seen them at least a half-a-dozen times each and they still, to this day, make me cry. It is a true testament to the writing, acting and overall quality of this show that they can continue to elicit such strong emotions even after so much exposure. But to choose just one? The one…?

I devoted a lot of time and careful thought to this decision. I considered all the important points within the story and the individual character arcs and how they intertwined with one another and finally came to this scene. Thankfully for me, Claudia described the marrow of it rather intimately and her words better articulate why it ranks as my most heartbreaking scene far more succinctly than I ever could.

“He really sold it. He had me in tears. I couldn’t go on set
to do my take, because I wasn’t supposed to be crying, 
I was supposed to be strong. I said, ‘Ben, you are breaking
my heart.’ One of the head cameramen came up to Ben 
and said, ‘You have just taken me back to sixteen years 
old.’ We haven’t seen much of that Crichton in several 
seasons now. We saw a bit of it in season one, but not 
about Aeryn. This is the first time we see him getting
fidgety and really being excited – that boyish charm 
and excitement. [Director] Tony [Tilse] played that 
scene out so long, all the different angles, so many 
different perspectives of Crichton feeling lost, and 
realizing that something has gone terribly wrong,
and the implications of losing a man that was you,
that was probably very close to the woman that 
you love, and what that means for him. How can 
you be with a woman who has already been
through the pain and anguish of losing you, and
yet you have missed the dance? He’s missed the 
experience. It’s a clever device, unprecedented 
in other genres.”

Last time I watched this scene, I had to pause and go away to have a huge ugly cry. My heart broke right in half.
